So I must admit that I don’t really like the whole aging thing! Lol So I am just doing my best to eat healthy, exercise, and of course take care of my skin! I know there are ways to help prevent wrinkles and discoloration! My mom always told me to stay out of the sun (which is hard) so always tried to guard my face from it. I am going to try to pass that on to my daughters, too! One magic weapon I have grown to love is vitamin c!! I started using a vitamin c serum a couple of years ago and really like it! Vitamin C has so many things that will benefit your skin! It boosts your skin’s collagen production which can help make it more firm and help plump out those fine lines and wrinkles! Another big thing is it can help prevent more wrinkles from forming. It helps fight free radicals and damage that are caused from the UV rays from the sun. I also started using this vitamin c powder by Philosophy that you can mix in with your daily moisturizer or serum. I got it during a sale promotion at Ulta, but it may become a new staple for me in my beauty routine! I will take anything that will help protect my skin and fight this whole aging thing! ;) If anyone has any favorite products that you love please send them my way!

So being a 37 year old woman, sometimes it is hard to determine what should be in my wardrobe. I’m sure there are some women that can relate, and I can imagine it won’t get any easier the older I get. There seem to be hidden “rules” like I actually read an article that said you shouldn’t wear hoop earrings when you turn 30 – say what?! (I’m definitely not following that one) Or the fact that my mom has been trying to get me to cut my hair since I had Olivia (I think she has given up) – that old “rule” that you should cut your hair after becoming a mom – I get that it is easier, but I will know when I’m ready to cut mine ;) Although I know there are some things I shouldn’t be wearing (like the things I wouldn’t want my own daughter to wear!), and some things that I need to embrace that you can’t always change with age aka those darn wrinkles.
But I do believe there are things that can make me feel better as a woman and things that I do have some control over like not feeling bad about keeping up with the trends or wearing something that a 20 something woman would wear. And if someone says you shouldn’t then I mean who needs that kind of negativity in your life? And it’s a plus when it is a trend like the high-waisted jeans that I’ve been loving– They are so comfortable and look great, too! And really don’t think I can do anything else other than that or a mid-rise anyway! And I admire those women that are older than me that continue to stay “fashionable” (There are many of you out there, and I’ve seen your great taste in jewelry ;) - They are inspiring to me, and I hope I can do the same one day . So I’m going to keep wearing my over the knee boots because 40 is the new 30 anyway, right? ;) #thisis37 So excited to be teaming up with my friends Stephanie and Sarah, awesome wedding photographers, in helping their brides find outfits/jewelry for their engagement photos. I don’t know about you, but I know for me that engagement photos were kind of overlooked because I was so caught up in preparing for my upcoming wedding (Attn family members – Please don’t post our original engagement photo). I look back and wish I hadn’t worried so much about things that didn’t really matter in the end. Stephanie and I are also similar in that ironically, we both had the same wedding photographer, but did not come out with many quality photos. I wish I would have listened and spent more on what really lasts from all the wedding expenses – the photographs!
If it wasn’t for my friend’s dad, I would not have had that many photos to cherish afterwards. (Of course, we also both got married before all the social media craze, digital rights and all that, too - No selfies were taken at my wedding either!) I LOVE what JW Wedding Photography desires for their clients – If you are like me you love what you see on Pinterest with the more elegant engagement photos – We want to help you achieve that look, too! It was not difficult or expensive to put this outfit together (Anyone recognize the necklace? :)) – Stephanie really worked the magic in this photo. :) If you are or know anyone that is getting married – please send them our way! We would love for you to get the whole package – Both a dream engagement & wedding photography session! And a big thank you to Stephanie for letting me kind of “redo” my engagement photo 12 years later! #IfICouldGoBack #weddingphotography #engagementphotography #photographslastforever #JWWeddingPhotography #stylist #JustAGirlAndHerCloset As women we struggle and have insecurities about SO many things - from our physical appearance, to raising children, and how we our perceived by others – ironically, especially other women! I loved the book Girl Wash your Face! I may be a little late, but after hearing about it so much I definitely wanted to check it out! It was such a good and easy read. Great for women of all ages and both stay at home and working mommas - It touches on so many important aspect of a woman’s life from marriage, motherhood, and how to be uplifting to other women! And just love how it encourages women from a Christian aspect to keep pursuing their dreams. Highly recommend it if you haven’t read it already - Especially at the start of a new year!*You can’t go wrong with plaid and a vest! :) It is cute and comfy and love wearing mine in both the fall and winter. And I love this simple necklace and pair of earrings that I can add to just about any outfit. :)
I’m sure there are many others out there going through a decluttering phase at their home – Usually this doesn’t hit me until spring break, but with staying home now and watching Marie Kondo on Netflix, it has hit me pretty hard this year . The hubby even got on board after I had him watch an episode with me. Although I can tend to hold on to clothes (I have gotten rid of a lot though!), I would say my hubby is more of the hoarder in our house ;). I can’t tell you how many times I have heard “Mom, you threw that away!” lol I try to keep some things for sentimental value, but I know I just can’t keep it all! Taking a pic has been a life changer for me though! But I also see the other side of things and know that I only will have small children for a short time, and some day I will miss the organization of little clothes & constant picking up of toys. So I’m just trying to find a good balance and of course with littles at home & the busyness of everyday life, my goal has been a bag at a time (It hasn’t been everyday -This is usually when I just get the urge) and I still pretty good about that. I know many of you can relate – Doesn’t it just feel great to just throw things away, though?!*Love these leather earrings! I liked the color of this sweater dress (Heard it was going to be a big color in 2019 ;)) and thought it would be pretty to wear with brown leggings. The brown duster I had worked perfect to complete the outfit, too.
p.s. I added a pic of Isla with all her dolls and doll accessories after she added quite a few to her collection from her grandparents at Christmas. She is a hoarder in the making :)
After much prayer I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life this past week – After 13 years of teaching, we decided it is best for our family if I stay home with our children. * It is not easy being a woman, so many expectations – We go to college to pursue goals & a career & then our precious baby is born and turns our world upside down making us feel torn & in the end we try to make the best decision. * Teachers and those specifically touching my children’s lives. Thank you – Teaching is hard – Doesn’t matter if you are single, no children, or grown or small children. I don’t think you can truly understand that unless you experience it yourself or are married to one ;) Stay at home moms – I will be joining you, and I know it isn’t easy. I know I will face new struggles and trials – because the grass is always greener, right? * Working moms – You got this – You wear so many hats, and I can honestly say I have never felt so physically exhausted after a long week of work –And you know what? I am so proud of my children, and I am also proud of those 13 years. :) Overall, women need to support each other & the decisions we make and what we feel is best. * And I have no doubt that God will have new things in store for me. :)
